STATEMENT: FL House Robbing Peter to Pay Paul

FloridaStrong Executive Director Charly Norton released the below statement following the House budget vote Thursday:

“It is deeply troubling that Speaker Richard Corcoran and his conservative foot soldiers in the FL House have once again passed a state budget that robs Peter to pay Paul. Despite campaign claims that they are responsible stewards of our tax dollars, the House’s budget plan does exactly the opposite. It is fiscally irresponsible and shortsighted to gut much-needed affordable housing initiatives, higher education, neighborhood public schools and environmental protection — all critical investments that will actually grow the state’s economy. Quite frankly, it’s insulting that the House would rather give millions of dollars in tax giveaways to the wealthy and well-connected instead of making smart, strategic investments that will help set Florida on a strong path forward. Floridians deserve better.”
